About The Position

This is a full-time position in Purple Strategies Operations Expertise Group. The Revenue Accountant is a core member of the finance team who regularly collaborates with all other teams to ensure revenue recognition is correct. This role will account for Purple’s four core revenue streams: Client Contract and Billing, Production, Research and Paid Media. 

 

In This Position, You Will

  • Read complex contracts/agreements and identify pertinent terms and issues to provide appropriate accounting guidance and propose solutions within Purple’s existing revenue recognition policy and the accounting literature
  • Work with client teams to prepare and distribute invoices to clients
  • Review of client invoicing to ensure revenue recognition guidance and contracts are executed
  • Work with the client teams, outside vendors, and accounts payable team for invoicing and reconciliation of client paid media
  • Complete or review the month-end close process as relates to revenue, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and deferral of revenue or production/research expenses
  • Analyze the monthly billing files for accuracy and post to the general ledger
  • Collaborate with accounting team and other cross-functional teams to coordinate, complete and resolve revenue accounting matters
  • Responsible for a set of accounts to review monthly in financial system.
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and data analytics
  • Compile and support internal and external auditors’ requests for information and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Experience You Need To Be Successful In This Role

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years experience in finance and accounting with a minimum of 2 years in revenue accounting. They will also hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance. Other qualifications and experience include:  

  • Accounting certification (CPA) or sitting for the exam preferred
  • Experience with reading custom client contracts
  • Experience in professional services / consulting industry preferred
  • Demonstrate ability to perform in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
  • Strong management/supervisory exposure
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Quickbooks and Sage Intaact experience a plus
  • Public accounting experience a plus
  • Excellent analytical skills to manage large amounts of data
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent Excel skills, including proficient use of Pivot Tables, Vlookup, embedded formulas and the ability to use these skills to automate current processes.
  • Analyze contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition methodology/ ASC 606
  • Deadline-oriented

 

Work Location

This is a full-time position based in either our Alexandria, VA headquarters or our Chicago office.  Purple Strategies offers a hybrid model and seeks employees who are comfortable working in the office for a portion of their workweek.
